LIghts on AfterSchool!
At Grateful Education Foundation (GEF), we believe that learning doesn't stop when the school day ends. Afterschool programs provide safe, supportive, and engaging environments where young people can explore their creativity, strengthen academic skills, develop confidence, and discover their potential. Our recent Lights On Afterschool Celebration and Annual Community Education Fair highlighted the importance of investing in quality out-of-school-time programs that empower our youth and strengthen families throughout our community.
One of the most exciting highlights of this year's event was our Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase, where students from our Afterschool STEM and Entrepreneurship Program put their learning into action! Our young entrepreneurs proudly showcased and sold products they created while gaining hands-on experience in business development, marketing, customer service, communication, and financial literacy. From promoting their products and interacting with customers to managing sales and practicing money-handling skills, students experienced what it means to turn creative ideas into real business opportunities. These meaningful experiences help develop critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills while building confidence and preparing our youth for future success.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Missouri State Representatives Mark Sharp and Tiffany Price for taking the time to attend our celebration and demonstrate their support for our youth, families, and community. Their presence reinforced the importance of community leadership and continued investment in educational opportunities that inspire young people to dream big, pursue their goals, and become future leaders and entrepreneurs.
We also extend a heartfelt thank you to all our community partners, organizations, volunteers, families, and supporters who helped make this event meaningful and successful. Your participation, educational resources, services, and commitment to supporting families demonstrate the power of collective community engagement. By connecting families with valuable information, resources, and opportunities, we are working together to strengthen our neighborhoods, remove barriers, and create a community where children and families can thrive.
Lights On Afterschool is more than a celebration—it is a reminder that afterschool programs matter! They provide opportunities for academic growth, social-emotional development, mentorship, creativity, and real-world learning that extend far beyond the classroom. At Grateful Education Foundation, we remain committed to empowering our community through educational opportunities that inspire resilience, growth, and transformation. Together, we are building brighter futures, one student, one family, and one opportunity at a time.
Because when we invest in our youth, we invest in the future of our entire community!
